PHIL Award Winner
October 2012
Paul Smith is a registered respiratory therapist who began his career in
respiratory care in 1977. Having earned his Bachelor degree from the University
of Rhode Island, Paul continued his training and received his second degree in
respiratory therapy in 1977. After working in two other hospitals, he joined the
University of Michigan in 1983. And, to this day, Paul has continued to practice at
U of M as a senior staff therapist.

Over the years, Paul’s kindness and compassionate attitude has remained a
corner stone in his treatment to those under his care. He has received
numerous recognitions from patients and it is an honor for him to be named this
year’s PHIL Award winner.
